Preparing for the September Reset

September Has a Way of Feeling Like a Second New Year

The summer holidays come to an end, schools reopen, work schedules return to normal, and suddenly the relaxed rhythm of July and August is replaced by school runs, packed lunches, after-school activities and busy calendars.

For parents, it can feel like everything starts again at once.

But the September reset doesn’t need to mean completely overhauling your life. In fact, the best approach is often the opposite: keep it simple, rebuild your routine gradually, and give yourself time to adjust.

Start With Routine, Not Perfection

It’s tempting to arrive into September with big plans. Train five times a week. Eat perfectly. Get the kids organised. Go to bed earlier. Prepare every meal. Be more productive.

Then real life happens.

Instead of trying to change everything, focus on rebuilding a few simple routines. Choose two or three BikeRowSki classes that realistically fit around your week. Put them in your diary like any other appointment and build everything else from there.

Two consistent sessions every week will benefit you far more than an ambitious five-session plan that only lasts until mid-September.

Make Your Training Your Time

Parents spend a huge amount of their week looking after everyone else. School drop-offs. Collections. Homework. Football training. Dancing. Swimming. Dinner.

Your BikeRowSki class might be one of the few parts of the week that’s completely yours. For 45 minutes, you don’t need to organise anyone else. You just need to show up.

Our coaches will take care of the session. They’ll guide you through the workout, help with your technique, encourage you when you need it, and make sure you’re training at the right level for you. Sometimes removing the need to think is exactly what you need during a busy week.

Don’t Worry About Where Your Fitness Is

Maybe you trained consistently throughout the summer. Maybe you haven’t exercised for six weeks. Either is completely fine.

One of the biggest barriers to returning to fitness is believing you need to “get fit again” before coming back. You don’t. That’s what we’re here for.

At BikeRowSki, every class includes different fitness levels and abilities. Our coaches can help adjust your intensity and help you build again gradually. There’s no judgement about where you’re starting – or restarting – from.

Your first few sessions might feel tougher than your last class, but give yourself time. Your fitness will return. If it’s been a while since your last class, easing back in without feeling overwhelmed is completely normal.

Think About the Whole Family

The September reset is also a great opportunity to establish healthier routines at home. That doesn’t mean suddenly becoming a family of elite athletes.

It might simply mean walking more, getting outside together at weekends, improving bedtime routines, or putting phones away for an hour in the evening.

Children learn a huge amount from watching what their parents do. When they see you making time to exercise – not because you have to, but because looking after yourself matters – you’re demonstrating a positive relationship with health and fitness.

Let Your Community Help

Routine is much easier when you’re surrounded by people who support you. That’s something we’re incredibly proud of at BikeRowSki.

Our community includes people of different ages, backgrounds, abilities and fitness levels. Some members have trained with us for years. Others walked through our doors for the first time this week. Everyone belongs.

There will be mornings when getting out of bed for that early class feels difficult, and evenings when work or family life has drained your energy. On those days, your coach and the people training beside you can make all the difference.

Keep the September Reset Simple

You don’t need a new you this September. You don’t need an extreme training programme or a perfect routine. You simply need to start building a rhythm that works for your life.

Book your classes. Give yourself time to adjust. Accept that some weeks will be easier than others. And remember that doing something consistently will always beat trying to do everything perfectly. If you’re looking to make it stick this time, here’s how consistency turns into a lasting routine.

September isn’t about starting again. It’s about getting back into a routine that helps you feel healthier, happier and ready for whatever the new season brings.

Book your September classes now and put your training in the diary before motivation has a chance to fade.

FAQ

How many classes should I start with in September?

Two or three consistent sessions a week is a realistic starting point – it’s far more sustainable than an ambitious five-session plan that only lasts a couple of weeks.

Do I need to get fit again before coming back?

No. Every BikeRowSki class includes a range of fitness levels, and coaches adjust intensity for you individually, whether you trained all summer or haven’t exercised in weeks.

What if my first class back feels harder than my last one before summer?

That’s completely normal. Your fitness will return with consistency – the first session or two just resets your baseline, it doesn’t erase your progress.
